The St. Louis Arena was one of the reasons why the NHL granted the city an expansion team in 1967. The arena was unique, with a steep seating architecture that put every fan close to the ice. Perhaps the arena’s best game was Game 5 against the Pittsburgh in 1981. The Blues needed double overtime to finally beat the Penguins 4-3 and advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Mike Crombeen's game-winner was great, but it was the goaltending battle that was epic – Mike Liut and Greg Millen each had 48 saves.
