The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was constructed in 1909 and is the first venue to be called a speedway. The track was initially built with bricks - hence its nickname The Brickyard - but by the '60s had converted to asphalt. That has been the biggest change in over 100 years; the track's dimensions have remained intact. This track was truly visionary and ahead of its time. The top qualifying speed of the 1912 Indy 500 was 88.45 mph. The top speed 100 years later: 226.484 mph. This venue has truly stood the test of time.
